Director UX Research and Innovation

THE POSITION 

You are our client’s strategic partner, guiding their research strategy, and using the insights you gather to inform critical product and service design decisions.  You will manage and drive research projects and teams (from one to many) with minimal direction.  You will be the Brilliant point person working directly with clients, speaking their language, and facilitating decisions and communications.  You will conduct research, analysis, and tell a story with the data you collect in a way that touches the client. 

Depending on needs, research will range widely from immersive field studies to large-scale quantitative studies.  You will plan and oversee systematic analyses of the data and extract actionable insights to answer client questions.  You will ensure those insights will be presented in a way that allows our clients to empathize and see the world through their customers’ eyes through video, images, personas, journey maps and more. 

 

THE CONTRIBUTION 

1. Lead Research Projects & Deliver Results 

  • Identify and prioritize research questions  

  • Develop detailed research plans, recommending specific methodologies as appropriate 

  • Dive deep into both qualitative and quantitative data in order to bring forward new insights that generate product and service innovations  

  • Manage and oversee the delivery of a range of projects, defining project scope, goals and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders 

  • Establish relationships and liaise with key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle 

  • Produce result summaries, personas, journey and opportunity maps, and when appropriate suggestions for updated information architecture, wireframes, etc.  

  • Be a storyteller – deliver insights both verbally and visually in a way that generates emotion and engagement from the immediate team and senior stakeholders 

  • Identify, analyze and resolve risk on your projects 

  • Perform quick but thorough analysis in order to uncover actionable insights 

  • Ensure quality of data collected and presentation of findings and recommendations 

 

2. Manage a Team 

  • Coordinate and manage a team to accomplish world-class research in short timeframes 

  • Instill project teams with the confidence and discipline to explore innovative design solutions while respecting client deadlines 

  • Engage with freelancers and client staff enlisted to support the project team 

  • Facilitate engagement and immersion of the client into the research activities 

3. Assist with Business Development 

  • Become a thought leader on user research across the company as well as the broader research community (e. g. presenting at conferences, writing articles, teaching, etc.)

YOU ARE… 

  • An 8+ year veteran of an experience design consultancy or have industry experience (corporate, software, web or agency) 

  • An advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction or a related design or behavioral science discipline, or have equivalent experience
